It is tempting to discuss the differences between a project manager and a project leader. This is because a good project manager really is a good project leader. He or she has gone through specific training to take them from just being a project manager to being an influential and motivational project leader. There are these additional skills a project manager has to develop to take them from simply being a project manager to a project leader who inspires people to higher achievements and accomplishments and not just managers of their work. These are the essence of leadership. To write about four aspects that differentiate leadership from that of a project manager as he performs his role I will look at these aspects, (a) approach, (b) risks, (c) values and (d) focus. Approach A project manager works with constraints. Once the charter is accepted for a project, the project manager begins planning the overall project. Project managers must be aware of the limits which will affect their project through all its phases, beginning with the scope development. Because it is the project manager’s job to ensure projects achieve a modicum of success acceptable to the stakeholders, he is limited to innovations that resolve issues when they arise or the issues he must plan for. Even in these instances, the project manager must be mindful of the budget. The project manager has to strategize to accomplish his job. A leader does not share the constraints of a project manager. One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich The book I chose to do my book report on is One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. The book is about the most forceful indictments of political oppression in the Stalin era Soviet Union. It is a captiving story about the life in a Siberian labor camp, related to the point of view of Ivan Denisovich, a prisoner. It takes place in a span of one day, from dawn till dusk (pg. 111) . This book also describes his struggles and emotional stress that he must going through. This book explains a single day in Ivan Denisovichs live in a Siberian prison camp. The story is taking place during Joseph Stalins Red Terror program between 1945 and 1953. But I think this specific day is in no case†¦show more content†¦26). And Thats what a squad (leader) is. A guard cant get people to [#8230;] work [#8230;], but a squad leader can tell his men to get on with the job, [#8230;] and theyll do it. Because hes the one who feeds them. (pg. 90). Thats why Shukhov, but essentially for the benefits of his people, represents the man who gives orders and pushes his squad. Because their survival depends on Shukovs ability that their work is being honored in order to get enough food et cetera. One of Shukovs most fatal errors is his escape from German captivity and returning to the Red Army (pg. 18 ff). Because of Mister Whiskers, a slang word, used to fool power ruler Joseph Stalin, (pg. 141) bitter sarcasm Shukov has been deported to a prison camp for treason his country as a spy. I remember the Fugitive Slave Act, where for instance Whites (for conspiracy) can be imprisoned by their own race. There are a number of challenges in the process in terms of migration from the existing practices to the ICT based models and change management as well. There are also a number of opportunities that are present for the stakeholders that are associated with the project as the success of the web site will result in improved customer satisfaction and higher revenues and profits as well. ICT Models There are a number of ICT models that are present for various areas and components and one of the most popular is the Success model. This model comprises of interdependent variables that are mandatory for the success of an ICT based project. The following diagram depicts the relationship between these variables. ICT Success Model (Petter, DeLone, McLean, 2008) The diagram that has been drawn above shows the variables that are necessary for the success of the project and also shows the relationship between each of the variable. System and Information Quality are the variables that are used by the developers, analysts and the designers involved with the product to increase its usability and also attain user satisfaction in return. In the pyramid model, there are three steps that are present. The transaction processing systems that will suit the project will include order processing and payroll management systems as these will be required to perform the activities to manage and process the orders that are placed by the customers and handle the payroll services internally. Inventory management and budgeting systems will be apt as the management information systems for the project as there is a huge role of inventory in this case and same must be handled carefully without any scope of errors. Budgeting will be done to make sure that there are no budget overruns during the project. Conclusion The project aims to provide the products of John Deere dealer to the customers through an online portal. It is not easy to implement and manage the change and bring a transformation in the existing practices. It is thus necessary to have the required change management plan and techniques to control the same. There will also be a number of security risks associated with the project due to the presence of multiple third parties and huge amount of data. The same can be tackled with the help of advanced security mechanisms and methods implemented across all the entities of the project.
